Are there Benefits to Raising Your Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) Dose Above 4.5?

A patient reports taking 4.5 mg of Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) and then tried 6 mg but didn't seem to help so he went back to 4.5 mg. He is wondering if he should stick with it and hope it works or split the dose morning and evening? He reports not having any side effects.

Generally we don't see too much benefit past the 4.5 mg. I have some patients that take higher than 4.5 mg but not a lot. Splitting the dose, even though pharmacokinetically it would say that once daily is totally fine, I do have patients that do it twice daily and split it and they just seem to like it better.

You could play with it and split it up twice daily, especially since you haven't had any side effects and it doesn't seem to affect your sleep. You have been on it for five months so you could try splitting it up and see if that helps. But, generally going above 4.5 isn't probably going to provide more benefit.
