Is Constipation a Side Effect of Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)?
A patient has had increased constipation and is asking if it's because of blocking that opioid receptor.
I guess it is possible. It's just a transient block. I wouldn't think it would be a big side effect but we do see the side effect of constipation. Whether it's from that transient blockage I'm not sure. It is something that we do see.
If you are able to tolerate different things to help with the constipation it is something you have to assess yourself if you're getting enough benefits from it and if you want to go ahead and try and treat the constipation. I don’t like to treat a side effect from a drug but it is definitely something that you have to know to judge personally and see if it is worth the side effect.
