Drug Resistant Depression - Elizabeth Livengood, NMD (2021 Conference) (LDN, low dose naltrexone)

Dr. Elizabeth Livengood’s presentation is on identifying different causes of depression, identifying depression, hyperthyroidism connections, identifying patient profiles who fit these descriptions, and understanding how to treat them.

Depression represents the number one cause of disability worldwide. There is an interconnectedness of depression, and pain and chronic illness. Almost hand in hand, are anxiety and sleep disorders

Acute depression or situational depression comes as a variant of life circumstances, and physical, mental, or emotional injury. You could include inflammation, as well. The predisposition to depression can be seen even before birth. And drugs and medications can strongly affect all of that.
Inflammation in the brain is a key player when it comes to depression. She discusses autoimmune processes and cortisol, and that dysregulation of the immune system that occurs in depressed patients is what hinders a favorable prognosis.

Food sensitivities are an inflammatory response from the B cell mediated humoral immune response - dysbiosis of the gut - that can contribute to all kinds of cognitive dysfunction – brain fog, dysthymia. A basic lack of bio diversity has been correlated to diabetes and dementia and Alzheimer's. Hormone imbalance, low Vitamin D levels, other mental health disorders contribute to the inflammatory responses. Tired brain syndrome is used to describe inflammation in the brain, and is discussed, as well as hyper- and hypothyroidism and depression. Drug resistant depression and dopamine are discussed.

A case is presented showing the extensive analysis and homeopathy done to support the chemical imbalances in a patient with major depressive disorder. Finally, Dr. Livengood gives some references sources.
