Any Suggestions to go from Once a Day to Twice a Day Dosing?
Answered by Dr. Sam Lebsock and Pharmacist Michelle Moser
If you are at three total milligrams and want to switch to twice a day dosing do you suggest cutting the dose in half so that you would take1.5 milligrams in the AM and PM or would you take three milligrams two times a day? The answer really depends on the patient. Normally when people go to twice daily dosing sometimes they cut it in half so they spread out their daily dose. Also, you don't always have to take the same doses in the morning as you do at night.
Dosing is very individualized. You may find that taking three milligrams in the morning and 1.5 at night is what works best for you. I normally tell patients to first cut it in half. Sometimes they will start and break it in half and take half in the morning and half at night. But then they start tweaking their dose to figure out what's their best total daily dose.
But never break a capsule. There is no way to get an accurate amount of LDN with a capsule. You can with a scored tablet or with liquid.
When you switch to twice daily dosing if you are at three total milligrams do you suggest cutting um the dose in half? So 1.5 milligrams in the AM and PM or taking three milligrams actually two times a day? Great question this really depends on the patient. I will say normally when people go to twice daily dosing sometimes they do cut it in half so they spread out their daily dose. And I will also tell you that dot you don't always have to take the same doses um in the morning or at night. So this is where it's very individualized. You may find that taking three milligrams in the morning and 1.5 at night is what actually works best for you. So I would say when I normally tell patients to first cut it in half sometimes they will start and just break it in half and take half in the morning and half at night. But then they start tweaking their dose to figure out what's their best total daily dose; if that makes sense. But don't do that with a capsule. You can do that with a tablet. A scored tablet but do not open a capsule. You're never going to be able to chase three milligrams to get one and a half on one side and one and a half on the other. Because in that capsule there's probably 130 milligrams total. I can't separate it in my professional lab I don't think Sam can either. I know a patient can't do that. So if you have a tablet or a liquid yeah you can literally cut it in half, right. But please don't do that with a capsule, right.
