How does LDN affect fertility? It seems to be used by some doctors to help with fertility, but I don't understand how or what it helps.
I'm a pharmacist, I am not fertility expert, however, I have spoken to a number of clinics who are using it. The NeoFertility Clinic, Dr. Phil Boyle, uses LDN in fertility therapy as a general anti-inflammatory agent to help with polycystic ovaries or the production of excess inflammation in the ovaries or in the womb. Because it's a general anti-inflammatory agent, it does seem to help in a number of patients, thousands of patients we've seen with fertility issues, but it's always used in combination with other therapies, not as a monotherapy for fertility.
This is a specialist indication where it has to be initiated, and monitored by a specialist. You can't come to us and request a prescription for LDN to help your fertility because we're not insured to cover that. It has to be through a specialist who is registered and insured to prescribe LDN for fertility. Because again, there's questions about using LDN in pregnancy and questions about the long-term issues. Who would be responsible? Not that we've ever seen any issues, but those are the questions out there.
