Microbiome Medicine: Clinical Correlations From The Trenches - Sarah Zielsdorf, MD, MS (2021 Conference) (LDN, low dose naltrexone)
In her presentation, Dr. Zielsdorf shares the importance and complexity of the human microbiome and best practices (from her own clinical experience) for restoring the gut microbiome and intestinal barrier.
Dr. Zielsdorf states how much attention the microbiome has had over the last 15 years, having some breakthroughs with elucidating very specific microbes and their role in gut health and beyond gut health to overall human health. Numerous studies are reporting changes in gut microbiome, such as dysbiosis (reduction in microbial diversity). This imbalance is reflected in the development of obesity, diabetes, liver diseases, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. Thus, the human gut microbiome is viewed as a potential source of novel therapeutics.
Dr. Zieldorf reviews how there's no one size fits all, dogmatic approach to rebalancing the microbiome. It's highly personal and nuanced.
