Repurposed drugs are common in medicine, aspirin, morphine, viagra and prednisolone for example. After drugs have been on the market for about 15 years, their patent runs out and they can be mass produced as a very inexpensive ‘generic’ drug.
Naltrexone is one such potential drug for repurposing. By lowering the dose a new set of possible indication emerge, this is the hermetic effect.
Low dose naltrexone has the potential to be used in diseases such as multiple sclerosis, COPD, fibromyalgia and Chron’s disease. Other possible new applications include reduction in anxiety and improvement of affect.
