Is There a Connection Between Autoimmunity and Inflammation?

Is autoimmune inflammation a step in the process of developing autoimmunity or does it ever not lead to autoimmunity?   Auto inflammation can happen in and of itself and I don't know that it's a step in the production of autoimmune disease or not.  I would imagine they could be independent of each other and never never meet in the middle so to speak.  I don't think there's correlation there and I don't know for sure that one could lead to the other. I've never seen any data on that.
