Treating Children’s Health in a Special Needs Pediatric Practice - Brian Udell, MD (2021 Conference) (LDN, low dose naltrexone)

Dr. Udell talks on the increasing incidence of various autoimmune conditions in pediatric practice, greatly due to genetic and environmental risk factors. The few useful safe medications are usually inadequate to control patients’ conditions, and many include a variety of possibly dangerous side effects that mostly target downstream signs and symptoms. Interventions must target a continuum of multi organ inflammatory effects. He cautions to beware of treatments that address multiple conditions, unless the disorders have a common underlying etiology. He discusses evaluation and testing, and LDN’s role in treatment. Given the risks, low dose, naltrexone is worth a try in a variety of conditions related to autoimmunity.
