Understanding Epigenetic Triggers for Health

Dr. Deanna Windham, DO: But is there more than the factors that we've spoken about so far? This unknown epigen unknown factors that act activate epigenetic risk kind of leaves me wanting more and feeling like I've been cheated out of some information. So, is it true that these are unknown? And I would say no. From research, I've been able to identify 23 known epigenetic triggers. Five of these triggers are associated with age. But we know, you know, we've had a couple Nobel prizes won in the last decade or so for research into aging and how we can reverse or delay the aging process in a human body. And we know a lot about why we age and how these processes contribute to disease. So these five age triggers are actually treatable triggers. And then you see that there are five body triggers and five mind triggers for lifestyle and for environment triggers. Every single one of these things is testable and treatable. Even so, if we look at the mind, those often seem like the most difficult things to treat. like a type C personality. A lot of you may not even have heard of that, but type A personalities and type C personalities have uh more have cancer more commonly and more specifically type C. You might want to look that up. And they've shown that re uh counseling and therapy can actually help. And then ECTS is early childhood traumas. And if a person has been through therapy and has made peace with those traumas and integrated them into their lives and h no longer has uh PTSD or symptoms of that trauma, then that's been cleared. But it and it can be cleared. People with early childhood traumas have have up to 40% increased risk of cancer. I did not say that wrong. 40%. So these triggers are extremely important triggers. All of them have dramatic impact on the uh on a person's risk for cancer and turn on their epigenetic risk including in lynch syndrome.
